The Siemens FDCIO223 is an addressable Input/Output Module (often referred to as a Transponder) designed for use within the Sinteso and Cerberus PRO fire safety networks. It communicates directly via FDnet or C-NET detector lines to bridge conventional fire devices and controls into a modern addressable fire alarm system.

 

Product Detailed Description

The FDCIO223 features 2 monitored inputs/outputs that can be independently configured (parameterized) depending on the field requirements. It processes signals using an internal microprocessor and serves a dual purpose: it can either ingest signals from older conventional detector zones or output power to trigger and monitor critical fire safety components like smoke dampers or alarm sounders.

Product Advantages

  • Ultimate Channel Flexibility: Each of the two ports is fully autonomous. They can be configured as a conventional detector line, a dry contact input, a monitored control output, or a control output that waits for a status acknowledgement.
  • Integrated Line Separator: The transponder features a built-in short-circuit isolator. If a short circuit occurs on the FDnet/C-NET loop, the module isolates the fault so the rest of the loop continues to function normally.
  • Full Loop Diagnostics: It continuously monitors both internal electronics and external field lines for faults, open lines, short circuits, and earth faults (ground faults).
  • Transparent Protective Enclosure: Built with a rugged, semi-transparent plastic cover that protects the electronics while allowing technicians to clearly see internal LED status indicators without opening the module.
  • Ex-Zone Capability: When paired with an SB3 shunt Zener diode safety barrier, it can safely monitor conventional detectors located in potentially explosive atmospheres.

 

Important Considerations & Precautions

  • External Power Dependency: To drive heavy output loads (like magnetic door holders or sounders), a stabilized external 24 V DC power supply must be connected to terminal block 4.
  • End-of-Line (EOL) Resistors: Because the lines are monitored, you must use the correct EOL resistor combinations (e.g., 3.3 k\Omega / 680 \Omega) or Transzorb diodes provided with the unit. Missing or incorrect values will trigger constant fault messages at the main panel.
  • Environmental Sealing: The base unit is rated IP30 and is only intended for dry, indoor areas. For installations in dusty, humid, or outdoor environments, it must be mounted inside an auxiliary FDCH221 housing to achieve an IP65 rating.
  • Insulation (Megger) Testing: Never perform high-voltage insulation tests on cables while they are still wired into the FDCIO223 module, as doing so will permanently destroy the sensitive microprocessor.
