An AO Terminal Base (IOTA) is a rugged mechanical and electrical assembly that mounts directly onto a cabinet DIN rail. It serves as the physical interface between the field wiring (wires going to control valves, actuators, or variable speed drives) and the electronic Analog Output Module (such as the CC-PAOX01).

The terminal base contains the terminal blocks for field connections, routing circuitry for power distribution, and the heavy-duty connectors into which the I/O module plugs.

  • Actuator Impedance Limits: Ensure the total loop resistance (the control valve positioner impedance plus wire resistance) does not exceed the maximum load capacity of the AO card (typically 750 Ohms at 24V DC). If resistance is too high, the card cannot drive the full 20 mA signal.
  • Shield Grounding: Analog output cable shields must be tied to the designated instrument ground bar on the terminal base and left floating/isolated at the field actuator end to prevent ground loops.
  • Hot-Swapping: While the modules are hot-swappable on the IOTA, ensure you follow correct anti-static (ESD) procedures and verify the health of the backup module before pulling a live card.
