Bently 350045 176449-04U 4-Channel Position Monitor
Product Dimensions:
1. Product Detailed Description
The 3500/45 Position Monitor is a 4-channel instrument that processes signals from various position transducers. It compares these signals against user-programmable alarm setpoints to provide machinery protection and essential information for maintenance.
The 176449-04 is the updated, standard version of the monitor module (main board). It is capable of performing several different types of position measurements by pairing channels (e.g., Channels 1 & 2 can perform one function, while 3 & 4 perform another).
Supported Measurement Functions:
-
Axial (Thrust) Position: Tracks the axial movement of a shaft.
-
Differential Expansion: Measures the relative growth between a machine casing and its rotor.
-
Case Expansion: Monitors the thermal growth of the machine casing.
-
Valve Position: Monitors the opening/closing position of steam or fuel valves.
-
Standard/Non-standard Single Ramp, Dual Ramp, and Complementary Differential Expansion.

3. Product Advantages
-
High Versatility: A single module can handle diverse position measurements (Thrust, Expansion, Valve) simply through software configuration.
-
Integrated Protection: Features “Alert” and “Danger” setpoints that can drive relay modules for automatic machine shutdown to prevent catastrophic failure.
-
API 670 Compliant: Designed to meet the stringent American Petroleum Institute (API) 670 standards for machinery protection.
-
Enhanced Reliability: Built with internal self-tests and “OK” status monitoring to ensure the system is always functioning correctly.
4. Cautions & Precautions
-
Software Configuration: Each channel pair must be correctly configured using the 3500 Rack Configuration Software. Incorrect settings can lead to false trips or failure to trip.
-
I/O Module Compatibility: The 176449-04 is the main module. It must be used with a compatible I/O Module (e.g., 135137-01 for internal terminations) to function.
-
Terminal Connections: For AC LVDTs or external terminations, specific external terminal blocks are required and must be ordered separately.
-
TMR Limitations: In Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) applications, Valve Position measurements are generally not available.
5. Product Applications
The 3500/45 is essential for monitoring large-scale industrial machinery:
-
Steam & Gas Turbines: Monitoring thrust bearing wear and differential expansion during start-up/thermal cycles.
-
Centrifugal Compressors: Ensuring the rotor remains within safe axial limits.
-
Power Plants: Tracking valve positions for governor control and performance monitoring.
-
Hydroelectric Turbines: Measuring gate positions and shaft alignment.
