Product Detailed Description

The 1771-IXE is an intelligent block-transfer module that converts analog signals from up to 8 thermocouple or millivolt sensors into digital data. It features on-board signal conditioning, scaling, and cold-junction compensation (CJC), which eliminates the need for external transmitters. The module supports a wide variety of thermocouple types (B, E, J, K, R, S, T) and can also be configured for high-accuracy millivolt measurements.

Important Considerations (Precautions)

  • Cold-Junction Compensation (CJC): For accurate temperature readings, the 1771-NJC cold-junction compensation thermistor must be correctly installed on the wiring arm.
  • Shielding & Noise: Thermocouple signals are very low voltage (mV) and highly susceptible to noise. Always use shielded, twisted-pair thermocouple extension wire and keep it separate from high-power cables.
  • Block Transfer: Data is moved between the module and the processor using BTR (Block Transfer Read) and BTW (Block Transfer Write) instructions. Ensure these are programmed correctly in the PLC-5 logic.
  • Obsolescence: The 1771 series is a legacy platform. While parts are available through resellers, consider a migration plan to ControlLogix (1756) for long-term sustainability.
