Description
Allen-Bradley 1489-M1C050 1-Pole 5A Type C Miniature Circuit Breaker
Product Dimensions:
The Allen-Bradley 1489-M1C050 is a high-performance Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) within the Bulletin 1489 product line. It is specifically designed as a UL 489 branch circuit protector, which means it is rated for the protection of branch circuits in accordance with North American standards.
Product Detailed Description
The 1489-M1C050 is a 1-Pole (1P), 0.5 Amp circuit breaker with a C-trip curve. Unlike “supplementary protectors” (UL 1077), the 1489 series is a “listed” circuit breaker, providing the highest level of safety for branch circuit protection. It is a current-limiting device, designed to protect against both short-circuit and overcurrent conditions.

Product Advantages
- UL 489 Listed: Approved for branch circuit protection, which is required by code for many North American industrial and commercial applications.
- Current Limiting: Rapidly interrupts fault currents, reducing the “let-through” energy to protect downstream components and cables.
- Dual Rated: Suitable for both AC and DC applications, providing flexibility for various control circuit designs.
- Small Footprint: Only 17.5mm wide per pole, saving valuable space in dense control panels.
- Visual Indication: Features a clear status window to show if the device has tripped.
Important Considerations (Precautions)
- C-Curve Selection: The C-Curve is intended for medium inrush loads. Because this is a 0.5A breaker, even small inrush currents from devices like small solenoids or power supplies might cause “nuisance tripping” if they exceed 2.5–5 Amps momentarily.
- Terminal Torque: Always tighten terminal screws to the manufacturer-specified torque (2.0 N·m or 17.7 lb·in) to prevent high-resistance connections and overheating.
- Directionality (DC): When used in DC circuits, ensure the polarity is correctly wired as per the marking on the device for proper arc quenching.
Product Applications
Due to its low amperage and high safety rating, the 1489-M1C050 is commonly used for:
- Control Transformer Protection: Protecting the primary or secondary side of small control transformers.
- PLC I/O Protection: Safely protecting sensitive input or output modules from short circuits.
- Solenoid & Valve Protection: Guarding small pneumatic or hydraulic control valves.
- Instrument Loops: Protecting 4-20mA loops or sensor power supplies where a very low trip threshold is required.
