Description
ABB DS671 Digital I/O Module
The ABB DS671 is a 2-pole (1P+N) Residual Current Circuit Breaker with Overcurrent Protection (RCBO) from ABB’s modular DIN-rail protection device series.
It combines two critical safety functions in a single compact device: protecting circuits against overloads and short-circuits (like a traditional Miniature Circuit Breaker / MCB) and providing earth leakage/residual current protection to prevent electric shocks and fire hazards.

Key Advantages
- Combined Dual Protection: Integrates earth leakage protection and overcurrent/short-circuit protection into a single module, saving switchboard space.
- Personal & Equipment Safety: The 30 mA sensitivity rapidly disconnects power during earth fault conditions, safeguarding personnel against electric shocks.
- Fault Isolation: Installing individual RCBOs per circuit prevents nuisance tipping of unrelated branch circuits when a ground fault occurs on one specific line.
- Clear Diagnostic Indication: Features visual toggle position marking (ON/OFF) and a integrated “TEST” button for routine function checking.
- Standardized DIN-Rail Compatibility: Easily snap-mounts onto standard 35 mm DIN rails inside distribution boards or consumer units.
Important Installation & Usage Precautions
- Correct Neutral Terminal Connection: Ensure phase (L) and neutral (N) wires are correctly identified and wired to their designated terminals. Reversing terminals can prevent proper differential sensing.
- Regular Testing: Press the built-in “TEST” button periodically (e.g., every 6 months) to verify that the internal electronic trip mechanism operates correctly.
- Insulation Resistance Tests (Meggering): Disconnect the RCBO or disconnect its neutral/phase leads before conducting high-voltage insulation tests on the field circuit to prevent internal electronic module damage.
- Breaking Capacity Match: Ensure the prospective short-circuit current at the point of installation does not exceed the rated breaking capacity (I_{cn}) of the device.
- Selectivity & Downstream Wiring: Do not connect downstream loads that share neutrals with other non-RCBO circuits, as unbalanced neutral currents will cause immediate nuisance tripping.
Applications
- Residential Distribution Boards: Individual branch circuit protection for socket outlets, lighting, kitchen appliances, and outdoor circuits.
- Commercial Buildings: Dedicated circuit protection in office spaces, retail units, and public facilities where personal shock protection is mandated by electrical codes.
- Industrial Auxiliary Power: Circuit protection for low-voltage power points, control panels, and portable machinery circuits.
- Wet / High-Risk Areas: Mandatory protection for power supply feeds in bathrooms, outdoor lighting, water pumps, and HVAC sub-circuits.
