• Intelligent hardware and universal vision software empower robots with real-time perception and adaptability using any camera or sensor.
• A simple, easy-to-use web interface, combined with ABB’s offline programming and simulation software RobotStudio®, enables rapid setup and deployment within hours.
• Significantly improves robot perception and visual reasoning capabilities – another major milestone in the development of ABB’s Autonomous Versatile Robot (AVR™) technology.
ABB Robotics today launched the OmniCore™ EyeMotion vision system, compatible with all OmniCore-equipped ABB robots. It uses any third-party camera or sensor to perceive its surroundings and adapts in real time, even in complex scenarios.
“Over the past decade, we’ve continuously advanced AI vision technology, enabling robots to ‘see’ the world in 3D. Previously, this required specialized advanced camera hardware,” said Markus Maschinen, President of ABB’s Robotics business unit. “ABB’s newly released OmniCore EyeMotion vision system overcomes this limitation, enabling robots of all types to not only ‘see’ but also ‘understand’ their surroundings in 2D and 3D vision applications, significantly enhancing their autonomy and versatility.”
The software features a simple, easy-to-use web interface and supports drag-and-drop sensor and camera configuration, making it easy for both experienced and novice users to quickly implement image acquisition and recognition. It fully integrates with ABB’s software suite and works with RobotStudio®, ABB’s offline programming and simulation software, for rapid setup and deployment. Compared to custom solutions, the software can reduce commissioning time by up to 90%.
The OmniCore EyeMotion vision system will revolutionize robotic automation across a wide range of industries, covering applications in areas such as item sorting and quality inspection, including automotive, electronics manufacturing, logistics, packaging, and food and beverage.
In more complex application scenarios, the OmniCore EyeMotion vision system can also be combined with ABB’s unique online automatic path planning technology. This allows it to autonomously plan and execute optimal collision-free paths that avoid obstacles and dynamic objects in real time and continuously without human intervention. This improves autonomy in critical tasks such as pick and place, and can reduce cycle time by 50%.
Cutting-edge technology empowers the future of autonomous multi-robots
The OmniCore EyeMotion vision system enhances robots’ sensing, perception, and visual reasoning capabilities, marking another significant milestone in the development of ABB’s autonomous multi-robot (AVR) technology.
ABB’s next-generation robots will integrate vision, precision, speed, flexibility, and mobility. Powered by generative AI, they will autonomously plan and execute diverse tasks in real time without human intervention.
The OmniCore EyeMotion vision system will be showcased for the first time at the 25th China International Industry Fair (CIIF) in Shanghai, September 23-27, 2025.
